Naked Wines Accounting Role

Our purpose? We're all about making the world of wine a better place. We fund and source directly from independent winemakers to bring customers better quality wine for a better price. No thirsty middlemen as far as the eye can see.

It's a different way of doing things, sure. But it works. We're currently the largest online direct-to-consumer winery in the USA, shipping over 1 million packs a year to curious wine lovers. And with an ambitious road ahead, we've got no plans on plugging the cork on growth.

Our global team (we have offices in the UK and Australia, too) is entrepreneurial by nature, obsessive about customer experience and driven by performance. All things that make Naked a great place to grow both personally and professionally. And yes, we like wine. A lot.

As a key accounting contributor in the global Naked Wines organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the completeness, existence, reliability, accuracy and valuation of US inventory. You will be the subject matter expert on US inventory in partnership with the Finance Director – Global Operations and the UK-based Transatlantic Financial Controller, as well as several other domestic stakeholders (i.e. winery, operations, etc.).

You will be responsible for:

  • Manage all inventory assets for the US business, including wine, dry goods, overheads, etc., through reporting, allocating, analyzing, and reconciling general ledger accounts monthly, resolving any discrepancies timely and completely
  • Calculate and post monthly accounting entries to record the costing movements of individual SKUs after bottling and other inventory movements throughout the month
  • Prepare, calculate, and analyze the inventory valuation provision to be presented to the Global Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer quarterly
  • Review inventory contracts bi-annually in conjunction with the US winery teams in accordance with 'IAS 37 Provisions, Contingent Liabilities and Contingent Assets'
  • Analyze direct and indirect overhead absorption, assessing reasonableness and proposing process improvements
  • Prepare profit & loss on disposal of inventory via secondary market and other B2B transactions in support and preparation of the inventory valuation provision
  • Provide reliable profit & loss analysis of the Sonoma winery financial operations, supporting the Finance Director – Global Operations with monthly business reporting, forecasting, and presentation to C-level executives
  • Develop and implement inventory accounting best practices for core inventory, third-party/B2B sales, and inventory valuation provision
  • Provide documents and explanations to external auditors to facilitate annual financial audits of US inventory and associated general ledger balances
  • Serve as the point of contact and coordinator of bank inventory field exams and external inventory evaluations; providing documents and explanations as required
  • Responsible for upholding company mission, vision and values
  • Other tasks, duties or special projects as assigned
  • Supervisory responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
