As a Machine Learning Engineer, you'll apply your skills in AI, personalization, and analytics to help improve the customer experience. Reporting to the Director of Data Science, you'll contribute to projects that power recommendation systems, personalization features, and other data-driven initiatives. You'll work closely with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to design, build, and deploy machine learning models that help customers discover products they love.

In this role you'll get to:

  • Develop ML Solutions: Build and deploy machine learning models that power personalization, recommendations, and predictive analytics.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with product managers, engineers, and data scientists to define requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
  • Enhance Infrastructure: Partner with engineering teams to improve data pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure, enabling efficient experimentation and analysis at scale.
  • Conduct Advanced Analytics: Design and analyze experiments (e.g., A/B tests) and generate actionable insights to optimize the customer experience and drive business growth.
  • Communicate Results: Translate complex technical analyses into actionable insights, clearly communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or a related field. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in Python and deep learning, along with experience in machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and deploying models at scale. Distributed training and ML optimizations is a bonus.
  • Software Architecture: Adept at end-to-end microservice development, with experience in orchestrating product pipelines for training and serving machine learning models.
  • ML Foundations: Strong understanding of model development, training, and evaluation for supervised learning and recommender systems.
  • Applied Analytics: Experience running and interpreting A/B tests and applying statistical methods to evaluate results is a plus.
  • Collaboration: Thrives working in cross-functional teams to deliver production-quality solutions.
  • Data Visualization: Experience with data visualization tools (Looker or Tableau) is a plus.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with personalization or recommendation systems, and interest in ecommerce or marketplaces.

What we offer:

  • Monthly allowance for insurance/education ($200 gross).
  • 50% paid sabbatical after 3 year anniversary.
  • Paid parental leave for new mothers and fathers.
  • IT Kit.

We believe diversity, inclusion and belonging is key for our team. At ThredUp, our mission has been built on extending the lives of millions of unique clothing items.
