About the Role:

The CFO of TOMS is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the company's financial and budgetary controls and reporting systems, for ensuring adequate financial flexibility to execute the company's operating and strategic plans, and for informing executive decision-making across the enterprise. They will oversee the functions of controllership, financial reporting, treasury, financial planning & analysis functions, and taxation. These functions are primarily centered in our US HQ, located in Culver City, CA and include regional finance staff in Amsterdam (EMEA region) and China (APAC region).

The Impact You'll Make:

  1. Work with the executive team to establish reliable financial and accounting systems and consistent policies to generate accurate, timely data, support financial analysis, and enable effective financial decision making, planning, forecasting, and reporting.
  2. Be a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team in deeply understanding the business, key drivers and goals. Build processes and systems to support current and growing business as well as create KPIs and dashboards for the executive team and Board to better assess and manage the business.
  3. Actively manage costs in the organization and propose ideas on how to streamline the business
  4. Lead the senior leadership team's collaborative strategic planning and budgeting process (e.g., Annual Operating Plan and Long-Range Plan) to ensure that TOMS sets and achieves its goals and objectives. Maintain a consistent pulse on the business and instill in the executive team and company the tools and processes to do the same.
  5. Oversee broad financial management including operational finance, financial systems, treasury, financial planning & analysis, tax, controllership, audit, cost initiatives, finance team, and processes.
  6. Build profitability analysis and P&L by channel to include integrating operational KPIs - e.g., DTC KPIs, retail sell-thru, etc.
  7. Build profitability analysis and P&L by product (e.g., category/class) and integrate with product, planning and merchandising functional metrics and levers (e.g., # of styles, unique material IDs, etc.)
  8. Design and build a financial planning and analysis function to partner across TOMS' business functions by providing analytical support and management reporting to include support on budget planning (AOP), forecasting and long-range planning. Bring an ability to 'see around corners' and assess future opportunities and concerns.
  9. Drive continuous improvement in all financial processes, leveraging technology and staffing resources. Working with key collaborators, play a significant role in streamlining processes
  10. Measure and manage near and long-term liquidity and forecast cash flows (13-week and rolling 12 month)
  11. Oversee lender relationships and ensure continuous compliance with credit terms
  12. Lead the company's global tax planning and compliance functions. Liaise with external tax advisors to estimate and prepare periodic tax and other distributions to shareholders as well as sales tax and other filings
  13. Help ensure that TOMS is an easy company to do business with through rational policies, efficient processes, and clear communications with vendors and customers alike

What you Bring:

  • Significant operational, financial planning, and Board reporting experience, including prior CFO experience with equivalent cross-functional responsibilities within a global consumer products environment (ideally from footwear and/or fashion) with a complex global supply chain and sourced manufacturing
  • Experience with raising and managing debt and equity financing
  • Must be a strategic thinker who understands the business ramifications of financial decisions in a dynamic, fast-changing environment and a deep understanding of the business implications.
  • Experience working successfully with operationally focused private equity investors, working capital providers, and a professional Board of Directors is essential. Ideally the CFO is experienced in providing information and metrics and anticipating the CEO and Board's needs.
  • Success building strong operating processes and financial planning with less sophisticated infrastructure and systems and an eagerness to 'roll up your sleeves', fix problems, and create better operating models, both by improving processes and moving to more sophisticated systems.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of successful finance and operations strategies and systems to assure tight controls and sound financial reporting, business planning, and forecasting.
  • Strong record in cost and expense management and in improving a company's overall profitability.
  • Experience optimizing talent and workforce management with the ability to work across the organization at all levels, interacting with leaders and support staff alike
  • A high level of learning agility with the ability to translate conceptual strategies into easily understood execution plans and change management.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with ERP reporting systems; SAP experience strongly preferred
  • Strong communication, interpersonal & management skills including staff management, development, delegation and multitasking
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in and a deep understanding of footwear & apparel wholesale and dtc operations and will be proactive in identifying and communicating foreseen impacts of operational decisions and initiatives
