Chief Inspector Or Resident Engineer

M&J Engineering is seeking an experienced Chief Inspector or Resident Engineer (RE) for a night paving project in Albany, NY. This is a field position on a New York State Thruway Authority construction project.

Location: Albany, New York.

Responsibilities

Monitoring and observing construction activities and completed work for conformance to the contract documents.

Communication with the contractor, Owner and relevant stakeholders, perform the minimum testing requirements to ensure that materials used conform to specifications.

The RE and inspection staff will ensure that construction activities comply with the contract, specifications, and engineering principles.

The RE will also communicate project-related data with the client, contractor and inspection staff to track and record the quantities of materials received or used, complete daily reports, maintain daily construction and inspection logs as required, along with applicable progress reports.

The RE will also be responsible for enforcing safety and work zone traffic control plans and performing all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant construction experience; NYSTA or NYSDOT construction inspection experience is desired, and must possess a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent and maintain one of the following licenses/certifications:

• Valid NICET Level IV or higher Certification in Transportation/Highway Construction or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
• NYS Professional Engineer's License is preferred but not required.
• Ability to perform quantity and engineering computations, and to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Understand the fundamentals of necessary inspection codes and requirements to carry out testing and must be detail oriented.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills.
• Requires a valid, clean driver's license and personal vehicle to travel to and within project sites for site inspections.
